About

Our Mission

Maple Corner Montessori is dedicated to fostering the child’s innate curiosity and initiative, creating confident, lifelong learners who are prepared for fulfilling and meaningful lives.

We believe.

We believe that every child possesses an innate curiosity and love for learning which takes them on a “journey of discovery” in the classroom. A Montessori education produces independent, confident children who are self-sufficient, environmentally conscious, emotionally balanced, globally aware, and respectful of self and others.

Fifteen years of test scores show that children in Montessori schools consistently test two grade levels ahead of their peers.

Our campus

Maple Corner Montessori is located at the Ford Family Center at Umpqua Community College. This beautiful facility is surrounded by nature and has access to gardens, hiking trails, an observatory, tennis courts, auditoriums, outdoor amphitheater, library, track and pool. Our partnership with Umpqua Community College affords us unique access to guest experts in the arts and sciences.

Our facility has a professional grade kitchen which allows us to offer cooking demonstrations and other activities.

HOME-LIKE ENVIRONMENT

Classrooms

Our beautiful classrooms are bathed in natural light and filled with inviting, hands-on materials. We strive to create a home-like environment that allows students to feel peace and tranquility while their innate curiosity is continually stimulated by fascinating materials. Montessori uses concrete materials to teach abstract concepts. Our classrooms allow children to choose works that they are interested in, and to work alone or in small groups. Instead of rows of desks, we have rugs, cushions, small tables and shelves that allow them to observe at eye level.

TIME IN NATURE

Outdoors

The outdoors is also a vital component of the Montessori classroom. We believe that physical activity and time in nature is crucial to a child’s development. Each of our classrooms has an attached outdoor classroom, as well as access to gated playgrounds. A large field and hiking trails offer additional space to play. We also have gardens and will be growing produce throughout the year.

SAFETY A PRIORITY

Security

Our school is locked at all times and there is controlled access to our campus. UCC security continuously video monitors the school campus and physically checks several times each day. They are one minute away in case of any emergency or concern.

What is Montessori?

Created almost 100 years ago, the Montessori method is the fastest growing educational system in the world. It was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first female doctor in Italy and a renowned professional who made great strides in the fields of psychiatry and pediatrics.

YOU ARE WELCOME HERE.

Parent Involvement

Parents are a valued and integral part of our school community. We host parent information nights throughout the year where you can see your child’s classroom in action. Parents are welcome to observe the classroom and to volunteer, to chaperone school field trips, and of course to attend our special events and performances. We have an active Parent Teacher Organization that also hosts events throughout the year. Parents are kept up to date on their child’s progress with parent teacher conferences, monthly newsletters, regular emails, and via our Facebook page. We love our MCM parents!
